Land owned by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) has been put up for sale despite an investigation finding the site contains dangerous asbestos and landfill waste.Ryebank Fields in Chorlton has been owned by MMU since the 1970s after it was gifted by Manchester Council for use as a sports field.The university has been open about its intention to sell the land off for housing since 1996 and the fields have been at the centre of a ‘bitter dispute’ between MMU and local campaigners.Despite being overgrown and prone to flooding, many nature lovers and dog walkers in the area have enjoyed the 'vacant and unmanaged area of grassland' and believe the land should be kept as it is.Earlier this year, a local resident discovered ‘suspicious.
