Ukrainian orphans arrive in UK as 50 youngsters prepare for flight to Scotland

More than 50 Ukrainian orphans have arrived in the UK ahead of their flight to Scotland after a special rescue mission by Hibs charity Dnipro Kids.The children, aged between one and 18, touched down in London shortly before 8pm tonight following their flight from Warsaw in Poland.It comes after a paperwork error delayed their initial flight and they will now travel to Edinburgh Airport later tonight.

The legal hurdle was overcome on Tuesday night meaning a Virgin Atlantic plane was able to leave Heathrow Airport this afternoon to go collect them.

Leader of the SNP in the House of Commons, Ian Blackford, announced that the flight had safely taken off from Warsaw earlier this evening.

In a Tweet, Mr Blackford said: "The flight from Warsaw to London, before onward transfer to Scotland, with the 52 orphans from Dnipro is in the air.
