There has been more than 900 calls to Childline from children over coronavirus worries since schools closed

Hundreds of children and young people have been impacted by the coronavirus after results show there has been over 900 calls to Childline.

There has been a 10% increase of calls from children about coronavirus, nearly two thirds of which took place last week. Support for children worried about Covid-19 hit a peak on Wednesday 18th March - the day when the Prime Minister confirmed UK schools would shut.

The NSPCC’s Manchester Childline base delivered 121 counselling sessions on the issue in just one day. Over half of young people who spoke to Childline last week about coronavirus were advised on their mental and emotional health as they struggled to cope with issues like isolation, arguments at home and the removal of professional support
