Angry residents are demanding answers after it emerged hospital bosses promised to find a ‘permanent solution’ to parking problems around Stepping Hill 13 years ago - but the council has done nothing to hold them to it.

Instead town hall bosses last year put forward proposals for a ‘controlled parking zone (CPZ)’ with residents having the option of buying two annual permits.

A pay and display scheme was mooted for hospital staff and visitors. The proposals were slammed as ‘outrageous’ by local campaigners Stepping Hill Neighbourhood Park Action Group (SNAG) and roundly rejected in a public consultation - with 95 pc of respondents saying they did not agree with the scheme.
