Storm Eunice: Power out on train lines as tree falls on tracks near Stockport

A fallen tree has caused a power outage on the train lines near Stockport as Storm Eunice batters the region. National Rail has confirmed a tree has fallen on the line between Manchester and Stockport causing delays to all services.

The M.E.N.'s Dianne Bourne, who is currently stuck in Cheadle Hulme, says she has been told by a driver that the power has had to be switched off. READ MORE: 90mph winds to hit UK with rare 'Red' danger to life weather warnings in place Dianne said: "Just been told by train driver a tree has gone down on the train lines somewhere near Stockport and so the power has had to be switched off @MENnewsdesk ".

In an updated tweet, she said: "Update on trains: Network Rail have to get to the station, assess the damage and then advise the train companies how long it will take to fix - it’s apparently not a quick and easy fix.

No ETA but all on board here at Cheadle are being urged to consider road transport now." In a tweet Manchester Piccadilly said: "A tree is blocking the line between Manchester and Stockport - ALL train services are currently subject to delay, alteration and cancellation. "Please check back for further information." Storm Eunice has caused chaos across England after it hit earlier today (Friday).
