Stockport is to get a £17m new secondary school for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).The much-needed school will be built on the vacant Orrishmere Primary School site, in Cheadle Hulme, and cater for up to 133 pupils.Pencilled in to open in 2022, it will be a free school run by Prospere Learning Trust, which has four other schools in south Manchester.Stockport does not currently have enough SEND places, meaning that each year many children are sent out-of-borough for their education.Bosses are also projecting an eight pc increase in the number of children who will need an education, health and care plan (EHCP).But the council has now been successful in its bid for government cash to create a new SEND secondary.
