Sir Alex Ferguson pays tribute to Rangers legend and former Man Utd assistant Walter Smith

Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his sadness at the passing of Walter Smith. Smith, former Rangers, Everton and Scotland manager, died at the age of 73 on Tuesday.

The Scotsman is the second most successful boss in Rangers' history and he earned his legendary status at the club by winning 21 trophies in two spells at Ibrox.

Manchester United fans will also remember Smith for his brief role as Ferguson's assistant. Smith was a close friend of Ferguson and became United's assistant manager for a short spell at the end of the 2003/2004 season.
