Shocking chart shows true scale of Covid-19 death toll in Bury

Shocking graphics illustrate the huge rise in deaths in Bury since the coronavirus outbreak began. Comparisons of the death toll recorded in April this year with the number of deaths in the same month of previous years shows the true scale of the crisis.

Bury reported 415 deaths in April 2020 - way above the yearly average of 155 for the month. The chart, produced by Manchester data firm Urbix, also shows that the excess deaths are not fully accounted for by the official statistics for the number of Covid-19 deaths.

There were 260 excess deaths in Bury during April (shown by the green line) but the government has reported 124 Covid-19 deaths (the red line above) in the same period, leaving a difference of 136 excess deaths not accounted
