direct to your inboxA scheme aimed at cracking down on rogue landlords could be rolled out to around 1,400 privately-rented homes across Manchester.Landlords or agents managing several properties could have to pay thousands of pounds to licence them under plans being considered by the city council.Selective licensing is introduced in areas where property management and standards are low, and levels of crime, antisocial behaviour and deprivation are high.
During inspection visits council officers have found properties with front doors held together by padlocks, no working toilet or kitchen, and families crowded into small rooms.
