halogen lightbulbs is set to be banned from the end of this month under Government climate plans.Shops won't be allowed to sell the higher energy bulbs and households will instead have to purchase LED lightbulbs., reports Birmingham Live.

The energy-friendly bulbs last several years longer than halogen or fluorescent ones and use 80% less power, which makes them cheaper to run.

But despite costs coming down in recent years, they are typically more expensive to buy - it could cost £100 per household to replace the bulbs from October 1 onwards.
