Sage scientists have advised the government to act early with Covid-19 'Plan B' restrictions to reduce the need for more stringent measures later this winter.
The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) said measures from the contingency plan set out by Boris Johnson earlier this year should be brought in "together" for the greatest effect.
The government's 'Plan B', to be brought in if data suggests the NHS is likely to come under unsustainable pressure, includes re-introducing mandatory mask-wearing in certain settings, a return to home working and the possibility of introducing Covid 'vaccine passports' for venues such as nightclubs.
