A group of lucky football fans will get the chance to run a match day for Queen of the South. The Doonhamers originally planned to have 11 spaces for young fans to go behind the scenes but were inundated with responses for the League Cup match with Annan Athletic on July 9.Now the League One side will give 22 youngsters the chance to take part in putting the kits out, taking training, being in charge of the club’s social media and stadium announcing. The club’s community and commercial manager Dan Armstrong said: “To get 140 kids wanting to do it is brilliant.“We often get told we need to do more with younger fans in the community so to have so many kids wanting to get involved off their own back is brilliant.“We’ve got community coaches and volunteers that will supervise the children and we hope that it’s a success and something we can do every year.“Everyone remembers going to football grounds as a kid and if you had that experience of going behind the scenes you never forget it.

We hope that’s the case here.“The kids will be putting the kits out for the players in the dressing room and that sort of thing.”The youngsters will also get the chance to work with the grounds staff to prepare the pitch, work with the safety officer overseeing CCTV and be pitch side with the club photographer.Dan added: “The children that haven’t won a space have been given a place on our free fun day the following day to be coached by the first team.“They’ll get to meet the first team on July 10.”
