education expert.Lindsay Paterson, professor of education policy at Edinburgh University, believes the move will identify and benefit those who were given inflated grades by their teachers.The academic’s advice comes as it emerged John Swinney’s exams scandal will cost taxpayers more than £3million.Some 75,000 pupils will be issued with updated grades after the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) moderated children from poor areas more harshly than those from the most affluent postcodes.Those in the most deprived areas were downgraded by 15.2 per cent compared with just 6.9 per cent in the wealthiest.The SQA website states the cost of a new hologrammed certificate is £40.Education Secretary Swinney last week cancelled downgraded.
