Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

Prince Charles has shared a statement to react to the Queen's announcement his "darling wife" Camilla will become Queen Consort when he is crowned King.

Clarence House shared a statement on behalf of Prince Charles on Sunday 6 February, which marks 70 years since Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne.

Charles paid tribute to his beloved mother for her "devotion" to her role as monarch.The statement read: "On this historic day, my wife and I join you all in congratulating Her Majesty The Queen on the remarkable achievement of serving this nation, the Realm and Commonwealth for seventy years. "The Queen's devotion to the welfare of all her people inspires still greater admiration with each passing year. "We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother's wish.

As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout." The statement ended with: "The year of this unprecedented Platinum Jubilee brings an opportunity for us all to come together in celebrating the shrive of The Queen, by whose example we will continue to be led in the years to come." It comes after the Queen, 95, announced an "extraordinary" decision to allow Charles' wife, Camilla, to become Queen Consort.
