Police watchdog's appeal over woman who died after crashing BMW in cop chase

An appeal for witnesses has been issued by a police watchdog after a young woman died in a police chase. An inquest heard Xena Georgiou, 20, died after the BMW she was driving 'lost control' and smashed into a parked car in Sale, near Manchester.It came after she failed to stop for police, sparking a 'two-minute' chase at around 8.30pm on Sunday December 3, according to the Manchester Evening News.She later died after being rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), with a male passenger also hospitalised with serious injuries.

A female passenger was also treated.The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have since been investigating the crash, including carrying out house-to-house enquiries and taking statements from the officers involved.They are now asking for any witnesses who may have witnessed the pursuit or the immediate aftermath to come forward.In particular, investigators are looking to speak to 'the doctor or medical professional who assisted officers' following the incident.

IOPC Regional Director Catherine Bates said: "Our sympathies and thoughts remain with Xena’s family, friends and all those affected by this tragic incident.

We believe there to be a number of pedestrians and drivers who may have seen or heard something that might assist our investigation."We are particularly keen to speak to the doctor or medical professional who assisted officers immediately after the collision as well as anyone else who witnessed the pursuit, the collision or the immediate aftermath.
