Police Scotland has paid tribute to a force horse who tragically died after collapsing on duty in Kilmarnock.Orkney was on patrol in Dean Castle Country Park on Tuesday, February 2, when she suddenly became unwell.A local vet raced to the scene and tried to save the stricken animal but the 10-year-old mare passed away a short time later.The horse joined the force in January 2020 and served communities across the country with her highly trained and specialised officers from the mounted division.Head of Specialist Operations, Operational Support Division, Superintendent Craig Smith said: “Orkney was one of a kind who was born to be a police horse.“She looked after you and was a brave, kind and sweet natured mare who exceeded all expectations.
