A non-league football team from Salford have been given a boost in their bid to save their club by the most unlikely source.

Ten pounds has been donated to Irlam FC by fan favourite and season regular 'Rico the big fat pigeon' on their crowdfunding page aimed at keeping the club alive during the pandemic.

Rico the fat pigeon left a heartwarming comment with his donation saying:"Seen a lot of your games from the trees this season and loved every second of them." The semi pro football team sat eighth in the North West Counties League Premier Division table before the suspension of the league on 16th March due to the Coronavirus.
