Pep Guardiola revealed back in 2014 that he may have been offered the chance to take over at Manchester United by Sir Alex Ferguson.
The tacticians twice went head-to-head in the Champions League final, with Guardiola coming out on top on both occasions. Back in 2014, the now-Manchester City manager described a meal he had with the legendary Scottish boss and how the language barrier potentially scuppered his appointment as United boss. My English [was] not so good when Sir Alex [Ferguson] speak a little bit quickly, I had sometimes had a problem understanding him.
That's why I didn't understand if I received an offer or not," he revealed. Guardiola eventually arrived in Manchester, albeit as manager of United's rivals City, in 2016 after a successful stint in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
