A passenger was dragged along by a tram for more than 40 feet when their bag became trapped in a door. The shocking incident happened at Shudehill Metrolink stop in Manchester city centre at about 11.15am on May 27.
An investigation was launched into what happened by The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB). The RAIB listed brief details of the incident on its website.
They revealed that the passenger struggled to free themselves after their bag became trapped in the tram's closing doors. When the tram then pulled away they were dragged 13 metres before falling onto the platform. Investigators said the tram driver was unaware of the passenger's presence when the tram departed from the tram stop., The RAIB says it has carried out a 'preliminary examination' into the circumstances surrounding the incident and will publish a 'safety digest' in the coming weeks.
