Parking on pavements could be banned as it continues to cause a nightmare for pedestrians in Greater Manchester. The Department for Transport (DFE) said it will consider giving local authorities more power to tackle the ongoing problem.
Parking on pavements is banned in London, but elsewhere it is only prohibited for lorries. Drivers in Manchester have received fines, as well as criminal and civil sanctions for parking in dangerous positions, or for causing unnecessary obstruction.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: "Vehicles parked on the pavement can cause very real difficulties for many pedestrians. "That's why I am taking action to make pavements safer and I will be launching a consultation to find a long-term solution for this
