Parking charges have gone up at several car parks in Manchester city centre after NCP hands over sites

The new charges were agreed by NCP before they handed over 13 car parks - and around 4,500 parking spaces - after a 20-year partnership between the two parties came to an end.Less than half of these sites will see their hourly or daily rates change, with Manchester council insisting that there will be no further changes ‘for the foreseeable future’.By taking off-street parking in-house the town hall had expected to make an extra £4.5m next year - but ‘higher than anticipated costs’ have shaved £400k off the expected income.As of January 1 the car parks have operated as ‘pay on arrival’ with customers.
