Oscars to include consideration for streaming films in 2021 ceremony

Filmmakers are breathing a sigh of relief as the Oscars have changed a major requirement ahead of the 2021 ceremony. Over the last few weeks, we have seen movies that were set to hit theatres postponed.

Major releases for the like Marvel’s Black Widow have been pushed back to later this year. Some films like Trolls World Tour have been made available to watch via on-demand services.

With cinemas closed due to the lockdown, the Academy has had to reevaluate their approach. In a video meeting on Tuesday, Oscar officials made the decision to change the rules for eligibility.
