An historic nightclub got the go-ahead to expand its operation after a boss said council licensing conditions must not restrict viable business.

Vinyl, formerly Club-De Mar, is branching out to offer family parties and conferences. It will open from 12 noon instead of 7pm and close at 2.30am seven days a week.

Councillors granted the Arthur Street venue permission to vary its premises licence this week. The decision came despite police recommending against allowing teens to remain in the club too late.

Vinyl got the go-ahead for teens aged over 14 to stay in the premises until the end of a function as long as they are with an adult.
