Nicola Sturgeon has admitted the Scottish Government has no plans to scrap council tax in the short term despite the SNP pledging to abolish it 15 years ago.
The First Minister was in Greenock on Friday to launch her party's local government manifesto which included a pledge to keep council taxes "as low as possible while protecting vital services".
The SNP leader also pledged to scrap council tax for all Scots under the age of 22 - meaning a young person living alone in a Band B property could save around £750 a year.
Abolishing council tax was a key plank of the SNP's 2007 Holyrood manifesto which led to the party entering government for the first time.Council chiefs have long called for the system to be overhauled as well as the overall funding systems for local authorities.
