Nicola Sturgeon announces 64 new coronavirus deaths in Scotland amid 1,121 cases

coronavirus in the last 24 hours.The First Minister confirmed that a further 1,121 positive cases have been detected overnight, taking the total to 194,269.The Scottish death toll now stands at 6,828 since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 1,317 are currently being treated in hospital for the deadly virus with 99  in intensive care. Yesterday Nicola Sturgeon confirmed schools will start to open for younger children from February 22.The phased return was confirmed for P1-3 in a "trade off" with lockdown across Scotland.The country has endured seven gruelling weeks of lockdown since Christmas with non-essential shops shut, almost all hospitality businesses closed and a ban on travelling outwith local council areas.The First Minister said.
