Building large apartments in Salford could help plug a 'shortage' of suitable homes for Jewish families looking to downsize, the council has been told.A new three-storey block with seven flats, between two and three bedrooms in size, next to Broughton Park has been given planning permission this week.Salford's planning panel was told that the new housing would help those looking to downsize and also free up large houses which are in high demand.But some councillors described the demolition of the large detached property currently on the land in Old Hall Road as an act of 'architectural vandalism'.One Jewish woman who has lived in Prestwich for 38 years told the planning panel that she had been looking for an apartment like this for three.
