Scores of dead puffins that washed up on the tideline in Orkney have prompted wildlife experts to raise concerns about the much-loved seabirds.
Puffins, which are usually found in great number in the isles, have been spotted either dead or gravely ill which has caused great alarm to local vets.
Experts investigating the mystery do not yet know why the birds are dying but they believe it is unlikely to be avian flu, which is currently affecting birds across the UK.
