Mortgage lenders are demanding 20% deposits from first-time buyers due to Covid-19 fallout

The Times has reported that not one high street bank has offered mortgages for those with a 10 per cent deposit in the past week, while brokers have warned even deals for those with a 15pc deposit are disappearing.

Data from Moneyfacts at the start of the month showed that borrowers able to offer 10 per cent of the value of a home had the option to chose from around just 60 deals.However six months earlier in March, borrowers could have chosen from 779 deals, the financial information company said.Lenders are being stricter about who they grant mortgages to, with some having already said they won't consider applications of those on furlough without a return to work date.Rachel Springall, from Moneyfacts, told the BBC that the current market.
