The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Scotland today as the country bakes in a sweltering heatwave.
Thunderstorms could bring disruption this afternoon from lightning strikes and strong, gusty winds bringing the heatwave to an end for some.The yellow warning is in place for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders from 4pm until 8pm on Tuesday and There is a small chance that lightning strikes could trigger wildfires or damage and power supplies.The warning reads: "Whilst many places will remain dry and hot through this afternoon, isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop across northern England and far southeast Scotland."These will move quickly north with frequent lightning and the potential for localised but very strong winds with gusts of 60 mph possible.
Any heavy rain is expected to be short-lived."
