Man stabbed by blood-filled needle on ScotRail train while binning paper towels

A Scots man fears he may have caught an infection from a discarded blood-filled needle after he accidentally stabbed himself onboard a ScotRail train.

Anthony Kidd, 24, was on the 18.12 service from Glasgow Central to Paisley Canal on Sunday when he found the syringe in the toilet bin.

He noticed the needle after it stabbed into his hand while he was binning paper towels.Anthony, from Glasgow, now has to wait four to six weeks for a blood test to check for any contracted infections.He told the Record: "I was in the toilet and I was putting paper towels in the bin as I noticed a small sign saying not to flush them."I opened the flap and put them in but then I felt a sharp pain."I looked and I saw a needle inside the bin with blood inside it."I pulled it out of the bin and wrapped it in my train ticket then I took it down to the conductor."Anthony says the needle pierced his skin and drew blood which has now plagued him with fears over his health.He said: "I couldn't believe that someone would do that and leave a needle there."I'm now worried I might have caught an infection."I need to wait four to six weeks for my blood test."I think ScotRail need to at least put needle sharp bins in their toilets."Train staff immediately disposed of the needle and locked the carriage after being made aware of the incidet before returning the train to the depot.ScotRail confirmed they were in the process of carrying out an internal investigation.
