Andrew Gibson, 29, attacked Lachelle Lamont and left her partner John Gilmour with fractures to his eye and nose. Gibson was only free to carry out the attacks because he had been released on bail over the knife find and a dangerous police chase.
He was caught with the two-foot-long deadly weapon - which an experienced judge labelled "an instrument of execution" - following a race with cops.
Gibson, who was banned from driving at the time, drove at more than double the speed limit, hitting speeds of more than 70 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone.
