Funk legend Bootsy Collins was fired from James Brown’s backing band when his guitar turned into a snake during an acid trip before a show.The musician admits his boss was always accusing him of being high onstage and one night he decided to show the Godfather of Soul what he was really like while on drugs.“One day I just decided to drop acid to prove him right,” Bootsy tells The Guardian. “You had to be so tight with his music; there was no way you could play it when you were high.

He (Brown) called me into the back room and I was out of my mind — my bass had turned into a snake — and he fired me, but I just couldn’t stop laughing.
