Irish thriller Bloodlands kicked off on Sunday night to mixed reviews as some fans felt like it was filled with clichés while others couldn’t wait for episode two.

Bloodlands is a Belfast-based thriller that falls into the ‘Irish Noir’ genre of telly from Jed Mercurio, who wrote and executive produced Line of Duty and Bodyguard.

In the season premiere, viewers saw Detective Tom Brannick, played by James Nesbitt, called to a crime scene in Strangford Lough, where a car belonging to a former IRA member had been pulled from the bottom of the lake.

Tom soon recognised the calling card of a serial killer from 20 years ago called Goliath. The killer was known to murder those who were considered a threat to the Northern Ireland peace process.
