The government has announced that millions of extra people are now eligible for coronavirus testing in the UK. With an ambitious target of 200,000 tests a day by the end of this month to hit, the government has dramatically expanded the list of people who are eligible for coronavirus tests in England.

As of May 18, anybody who is over the age of five and is showing symptoms of coronavirus is eligible for a test. It comes after the list of eligible people had been expanded to include key workers and those most vulnerable.

At the end of April health secretary Matt Hancock announced that anyone over the age of 65 with symptoms, and any staff members of residents in a care homes regardless of symptoms, could get tested.
