Experts have suggested that the price of feeding a family is set to rise by £533 this year following a spike in supermarket prices.
According to research firm Kantar, prices of butter, milk and chicken have all shot up by 11.6 per cent which equates to a rise of £10.25 each week for the average British household.
According to data from the Office for National Statistics by personal research firm NimbleFins, the average household already spends £3,601 on groceries each year.
Fraser McKevitt, head of retail and consumer insight at Kantar, said: "As predicted, we’ve now hit a new peak in grocery price inflation, with products like butter, milk and poultry in particular seeing some of the biggest jumps.
