direct to your inboxPlans for a giant 18-storey tower block in Stockport have been given the green light despite fears over the ‘Hong Kongisation’ of the town centre.The high rise ‘resi-tower' - boasting 98 apartments - is to be built on the pay and display car park between Piccadilly and Fletcher Street and opposite Regal House.It will feature a six storey ‘plinth’ at its base, with a ‘relatively slim’ tower rising from the Piccadilly side.The base is mainly earmarked for commercial units - possibly shops, restaurants or offices - as well as seven townhouses fronting Fletcher Street and some apartments.Stockport council’s planning committee were reassured over fire safety arrangements after issues at Regal House - also owned by applicant.
