A self-styled model is behind bars for trying to scam her ex out of more than £60,000 after he called off their wedding. Rosemary Lai forged letters from bailiffs in a bid to dupe her former fiancé out of the cash.
The 'materialistic' fraudster, who promotes herself on social media as a model, tried to scam her former squeeze after he dumped her.The 31-year-old knew that, following the death of his grandmother, he had inherited a property and money and began researching 'expensive' wedding venues after he proposed to her.
The details emerged when Lai, of Longsight, Manchester, appeared in court, Manchester Evening News reports. The city's Crown Court heard he pair had met on the online dating site Plenty of Fish in 2017 and he proposed the following year.Prosecutor Mark Pritchard said he paid for 'everything' during their relationship.
He added: ""The defendant was very money focused in the relationship and materialistic."The complainant told her that they were beyond his means, and they needed to look for cheaper venues.
