Sam Shepherd (Floating Points) released "Vocoder," his first single of the year, last month. It was also his first solo song since Promises, a collaborative LP with Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra that made The FADER's 50 best albums of 2021 list.
He's now returned with another new cut, "Grammar," as he continues to prepare for a busy summer of touring. "Grammar" is similar in style to "Vocoder," a propulsive drum machine touring the listener through a soundscape of seamlessly blended throwback vocal samples.
It's a far cry from the nearly arrhythmic Promises, which was better built for quiet rooms or long drives than dance floors.
