Rashid Jama, 18, had Marfan syndrome - a genetic disorder which affects around 1 in 5000 people. The syndrome affects the body's connective tissues and can cause serious heart defects.
The student, who lived in the Victoria Park area of Manchester, underwent planned surgery on his heart at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) in March last year.
