Georgia May Foote has criticised the TV industry for not casting enough northern actors in northern roles. The former Coronation Street star, from Bury, raised eyebrows on Twitter after she pointed out double standards and asked why more northern talent aren't chosen for jobs requiring their accents.
Her words came after the Netflix drama White Lines, about Manchester partygoers in Ibiza, was widely criticised for its northern accents. "Why are northern actors not asked to play northern parts?" tweeted Georgia. "The accent is really difficult if you're not from here.
A neutral accent is something northerners have always had to do to get work. Now our accent is more popular why are we not getting the jobs when it is required." She added:
