Care home residents with suspected coronavirus are being denied hospital beds, a shadow minister has warned, raising concerns of a ‘blanket policy’ across the system.

Barbara Keeley, MP for Worsley and Eccles South and shadow minister for social care, says she has been pushing the government for answers on the issue - arguing the social care system in general is being treated as an ‘afterthought’ by ministers.

In one Salford care home there have been five deaths alone, she told the M.E.N, warning that the entire sector is being denied protection equipment and testing.
