James Bye has revealed he almost cried while asking close friend Lacey Turner to be the godmother of his one year old son Hugo, who was recently christened.

The 36 year old EastEnders star – who has played Martin Fowler on the BBC soap since 2014 – exclusively opened up to OK! about the emotional moment.

Speaking about the moment he popped the question to 31 year old Lacey, who recently confessed she "ignored" her pregnancy for 14 weeks, James said that he felt a little "choked up" and nearly cried while speaking to her.

He said: "I took Lacey out for lunch to ask her. I was quite nervous and I was getting choked up asking her. "Bless her, she was really taken aback and said it was an honour.
