Drivers who used the hard shoulder to skip traffic following a fatal crash on the M60 will face prosecution, police have said.

Two air ambulances landed at the scene after a silver BMW crashed into a parked highways maintenance vehicle on Friday afternoon.

The motorway was closed for several hours at junction 23 near Tameside. An eight-year-old boy died and six-year-old was injured.

A woman travelling in the highways maintenance vehicle was hurt. Her injuries were 'minor'. The driver - a man in his 30s - was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving.
