A devastated Scots mum says she fears her disabled daughter will be "left to die' under health guidelines if she contracts coronavirus.Ailey Wales suffers from Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, a rare genetic condition which has left her unable to walk, talk or eat.Mum Shannon says guidelines set out by the National Institute for Healthcare Excellence (NICE) state that if medics have to make a decision of which life to save between Ailey and a non-disabled child, then the five-year-old would be "left to die".Ordinarily NICE only oversees guidance for NHS England and Wales.
However the non-governmental body operates an Interventional Procedures Programme - which includes current procedures on dealing with Covid-19 and is applicable to NHS Scotland.S
