By Tom Tapp Deputy Managing Editor The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed 56 new deaths and 1,541 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

That’s nearly 1,000 more new infections than were announced on Tuesday. L.A. County Director of Public Health Dr. Barbara Ferrer attributed this jump to new testing in institutional settings and also a lag in test results over the weekend.
