Concern over spike in cancelled operations

Sign up to the weekly West Lothian Courier newsletter for the latest West Lothian news and sport.Health bosses are being urged to get the NHS back on track after it was revealed the number of cancelled operations had spiked during lockdown.Newly-released figures revealed almost 17,000 fewer operations were carried out by NHS Lothian since March compared to same period last year.In the last five months, from March 2020 to July 2020, NHS Lothian has carried out 9475 operations, compared to compared to 26,467 for the same five month period last year.Restrictions had been placed on operations because of Covid-19 and only urgent operations being carried out.This meant 16,992 fewer operations were undertaken in the NHS Lothian area.Latest figures.
