Christmas Eve on city's 'counterfeit street' as police crack down on violence

While shoppers were hunting down last-minute Christmas gifts in the city centre, police have been trying to stop some bargain hunters just outside of it.

Officers have been spending Christmas Eve on Manchester's infamous 'counterfeit street', along Bury New Road and Great Ducie Street, in the shadow of Strangeways prison.

Police have been given enhanced stop and search powers in a bid to tackle the outbreaks of violence which have become far too common in the area.
