A teenager shot dead in a 'shocking and senseless killing' has been named locally as University of Salford student Aya Hachem.

A murder investigation was continuing today after the 19-year-old's death in Blackburn, Lancashire. Ms Hachem is believed to have been hit by a shot fired out from a car window.

Reports suggested she was walking to buy groceries near to her home on Sunday afternoon at the time. Ms Hachem was named locally and by friends, reported Lancs Live.

The Asylum and Refugee Community (ARC), a charity working with asylum seekers and refugees in Blackburn, said she was originally from Lebanon and was studying law at Salford, reported The Mirror.
