Axe to fall on 200-year-old tree next to listed mansion in Salford park

But a huge tree dating from the late Georgian era which has graced the front of Buile Hill Mansion is to be felled. It has succumbed to Dutch Elm disease and must be axed for safety reasons.

It is thought it has been planted as a sapling when the Grade II listed stately home was built. Earlier this month after more than two decades of neglect Salford's City Mayor, Paul Dennett, announced that work to stop the mansion falling into further disrepair will start in June or July.
