Baroness Hughes has served as Mr Burnham’s number two since he was first elected in 2017. She is responsible for oversight of policing, crime and the fire service.

The former government minister and Trafford council leader’s reappointment to the £85,000-a-year post is expected to be approved at a meeting on Friday.

Greater Manchester’s police, fire and crime panel will receive a presentation from Baroness Hughes on the ‘programmes and projects’ delivered alongside the mayor.
